Bio: Matthew Burgess is an Industrial Design student at Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. He is also pursuing a minor in Sustainability which gives his design process a unique and holistic perspective. Matthew will be graduating in May 2022 with honors, and he is passionate about designing creative and sustainable solutions to construct eco-friendly designs. His ideation of a sustainable portable battery unit, the “Igni,” won him the Fall 2021 senior studio Design Excellence Award.

Matthew also applies his expertise in sustainability and design to his work as an Instructional and Graphic Designer at ASU’s Circular Living Lab. In this position, he utilizes his CAD modeling skills to accurately render complex machinery used to recycle plastics and turn them into sustainable products. He also uses his UI/UX design skills to create instructional videos and graphics used by the lab. Matthew’s other interests include playing volleyball, longboarding, and drinking good coffee!
